ZunePhone Coming?

Posted: January 12, 2010 in Gadgets, Mobile

Since the release of Zune HD, everyonce is shouting for a ZunePhone, a statement from Mr. Bach of Microsoft makes many believe that the only roadmap where the ZuneHD is going is to GSM. In response to a question about how Zune fits into Microsoft’s mobile strategy, Bach had this to say:

“Now, your other question was about I’m getting old. Zune, so Zune has been critically successful. And the way Zune is going to be successful for us in the future is you should think of that as our media service across multiple screens. We’ll continue to have the Zune device screen. But, we now have Zune on Xbox. We have Zune on the PC. There are other places where Zune logically could go that we don’t get to talk about yet. And I think lots of different screens with that capability can go.”

The question now is whether Zune will come to Windows Mobile or live as its own brand remains to be seen.

Samsung Corby S3653 Review

Posted: January 5, 2010 in Gadgets, Mobile

The latest trend nowadays for mobile phones is having a Touch Screen LCD without having the help of a stylus. I can say that Apple iPhone started it all then boom, the rest is history and major mobile companies now are following that trend. Samsung is being aggressive and focus on bringing in affordable phones that features touch screen. Who would thought that Samsung Star is already cheap, now they released the most affordable touch screen, the Corby S3653 (price starts at Php 7,000).

The S3653 looks hip and fresh just like its target market, the teenagers. This phone is also for those who are in tight budget but still wants to be in. Perhaps one of the Selling Point of this phone is the interchangeable back cover. It even comes with two extra back cover to make it even more personalized.

What’s in the box?

Package includes, the Corby S3653, battery, charger, 2 extra colorful covers and a in-ear earphones with mic adapter. What is missing: Memory Card and Data Cable.

The User Interface

Corby offers three different homescreen that you can alternate by selecting the small dots on the bottom of the screen. What I like most of these Samsung Touch Screens are those widgets, which you can fill every homescreen. The Main Menu Displays 3 by 4 grid icons, the design is somehow similar to iPhone.

Another unique features of Samsung Phones is the feature Smart Unlock, allowing to make a call, open a menu item and application by drawing a letter on the unlock screen. This phone also supports multitasking. This also has a social networking integration (facebook, twitter and myspace) so now you can chat and add friends with a click away using you mobile phone. Radio and Mp3 players can be used as widget, its like a compact media player on you desktop.

Corby 3653 is equipped with a 2 mega-pixel camera with smile detector. Badly is doesn’t have an autofocus. Video recording is QVGA @ 15fps. Connectivity lacks 3g and wifi, but with bluetooth A2DP support. This phone can support up to 8GB of micro SD card according to the box but haven’t tried it.

In the end you’ll get what you paid for, a Php 7,000 touch screen with all the basic features of a mobile phone without something unique. Overall this is a great buy with a 2mp camera, touch screen, mp3 and neat interface. This is recommended for those who are youngster who always wants to be connected in social networks at the same time who wants simple, affordable and trendy phone.
